[ The sun's at a merciful angle for this. It's not beaming right into her eyes, but the light is good enough that she's got a decent amount of visibility up here. Still, from the shade of the treeline, everything else seems blown out and overly-bright and Rin has to squint, blinking to make her eyes swim into focus. For a moment, all she can see is a flat expanse of bone-white broken through with dark shadows, but when her eyes adjust, she starts being able to pick out details. Her face falls a bit when she realizes it's just what they'd expected – a mountain range, with no sign of any civilization whatsoever, let alone other people.
But that's kind of grim. She can't call news like that down to them. It makes things seem a bit too... hopeless.
